What’s New?

Good vibes from the Valley

As August winds to a close, September ushers our Valley growers into the golden days of summer. From the fantastic Friesen Farm in Aldergrove, enjoy parsley, baby carrots and baby beets. Friesen’s basil, spinach, parsley, Valley mix, and full-sized carrots will be weather dependent—we’ll keep you posted.  From Olera Farms in Abbotsford, enjoy mixed salad, braising mix, basil and arugula. From phenomenal Glen Valley in Mt. Lehman—Scarlet Runner beans. You can always count on Myers Organic Farms in Abbotsford for a great list–red, easter egg, and french breakfast radishes, bunch arugula and spinach, baby bok choi, green mustard, green and red dandelion, cilantro, curly and italian parsley, and a variety of kales and lettuces are just a selection of what they have.

Bean bonanza

Beans are gorgeous this week! From Glen Valley, enjoy runner, green and yellow beans. Down from Notch Hill in Sorrento–nutty and delicious fresh garbanzo beans. Yum! For those of you lucky enough to be enjoying borlotti beans this year, sober news–sustained drought and warm weather have reduced yields on borlotti’s throughout the Pacific Northwest. Call for availability.

“Choked” up–artichokes so good they bring a tear to your eye

Glen Valley Artichoke Farm in Abbotsford grows some darn beautiful artichokes. Picked Monday morning and arriving Monday evening, these ‘chokes are pure freshness. We sold out last week, so get your orders in to enjoy them.

You say tomato…

…We say delicious! From Klippers Organic Acres in the Similkameen Valley: beautiful heirlooms , mixed cherry, and sensational sungolds. (And check out the selection of tomatoes from Glorious Organics at the bottom of the page.)

Fruit fiesta!

Fruit is throwing a party, and you’re invited. Stone fruit is at the head of the conga line, with juicy nectarines, peaches, Black Amber and Friar, Italian prune and golden plums from Cawston. Early Sunrise and Sumac apples get the party started along with the first pears of the season, green and red Klappertons. For those who prefer to be fashionably late—snatch up some blueberries from Mander Brothers Farm before the sun comes up.

Perfectly preserved

Bite into a summer memory with lovely dried cherries from Rothe Farm in Oliver.

Golly gee! ‘Glorious’!

Another great week bring us Celebration Salad (with or without flower petals), seasonal salad, braising mix, baby chard, fava tips, pea tips, purslane, sorrel, baby leeks, baby fennel, mixed baby carrots, mixed baby beets, fresh garlic, and Scarlett Runner beans. Herbs are abundant, with mixed dessert or savoury garnish, basil tips, mixed mint, rosemary, savory, sweet cicely, spearmint, and woodland sorrel. For flowers this week we have the gorgeous anise flowers, bachelor buttons, nasturtiums, mixed edible flowers, and lovely flower petal mixes.
